MANNS HARBOR

Moored at the state's shipyard here, the passenger ferry Corolla has sat, unused, since it was delivered new three years ago.

The white cabin and aluminum pontoons still shine in the sunlight. Inside the cabin, pristine life jackets sit under taut, unblemished seats. It looks ready for a sightseeing tour.

But the state has no plans to use the Corolla or sell it, said Ernie Seneca, spokesman for the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The ferry's builder, Robbie Cunningham, president and owner of Trident Florida Trading Co., wants the ferry sold. Pontoon boats like it carry tourists and commuters in many waterways along the coast, he said.
