A stretch of beach at Rodanthe has become something of a no man's land now that federal officials have confirmed what's been apparent for years: The original boundary of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore is under water.
The first boundary survey done in the park since 1974 shows that the shoreline between the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge border to just south of the Rodanthe pier has rapidly eroded since the park was established in 1953.
Most of the park boundary within the 1.7-mile strip of beach is now in the ocean.
