Body of man who disappeared in Currituck surf is found

Currituck County

The body of a Currituck County man was found Monday evening near where he disappeared Sunday in the surf.

Santos Elis Choli of Point Harbor submerged suddenly Sunday near Carova, a community in the four-wheel-drive area of the Currituck Outer Banks, said Sandy Casey, chief deputy for the Currituck County Sheriff's Office.

Friends swimming nearby lost sight of him, and searchers, including the Coast Guard, failed to find him Sunday.

6:30 p.m. Monday. He is believed to have been 18 or 19 years old, Casey said.

Authorities do not know why he disappeared.

Meanwhile, a man who collapsed into the water while swimming Sunday near Ocean Sands was identified as Scott Guzzo, 47, of Rocton, Pa.

Guzzo collapsed while swimming with family members. The cause of death has not been determined. The Ocean Sands subdivision lies within the Outer Banks community of Corolla.

There were no rip-current warnings at either site.
