Some Basic Information
What are Medicinal Mushrooms? Medicinal mushrooms are a traditional health food used by many diverse cultures around the world. Some mushrooms such as Shitake, Matsutake and Enokitake can be cooked and consumed as gourmet foods. Others such as Reishi and Mulberry Yellow are prepared as a beverage, such as tea, due to their hard, corky texture.

What is Mulberry Yellow?
Mulberry Yellow is a type of medicinal mushroom that grows on the trunk of the Mulberry tree. The yellow color of the mushroom is why it has been called Mulberry Yellow (Sang-Hwang in Korean). The Latin binomial name for Mulberry Yellow is Phellinus Linteus. Search for Phellinus Linteus online to learn more about its history and what types of ailments it has been traditionally used to alleviate. Mulberry Yellow has been used
for thousands of years; yet, due to its extreme rarity has not been generally available. In ancient times the Mulberry Yellow mushrooms were reserved only for the Emperor and royal family. We are proud to offer you fine tea products made from the Mulberry Yellow mushroom.

Is Mulberry Yellow Safe for Consumption?
The Mulberry Yellow mushroom is safe and non-toxic with no side effects or harmful drug interactions. To ensure the highest quality, our Mulberry Yellow mushrooms are harvested from wild sources in old growth mulberry forests of South East Asia. We do additional safety testing to ensure only the best tea products. The tea is processed, produced and sanitized in California in facilities that meet all of the California standards for food processing.
Why has Calcium Ascorbate Been Added?
The benefits of medicinal mushrooms are greatly enhanced when taken with Vitamin C as it assists in assimilating the medicinal mushrooms into the body. Because pure Vitamin C is acidic (ascorbic acid) it can cause stomach upset in some and teeth decay over time. Because of these possible side effects, Vitamin C is typically buffered to balance the pH. The most common form of buffered Vitamin C is Sodium Ascorbate. However, this is high in sodium, which can raise blood pressure levels. We have chosen Calcium Ascorbate as the form of Vitamin C to be used in our teas to avoid any extraneous side effects. The added benefit of Calcium Ascorbate is calcium, which is used in the prevention of osteoporosis.

How to Prepare
Add one tablespoon of loose tea, or one tea packet, to desired amount of hot water (generally about 8 – 16 fluid ounces). Use more tea mix, or add another tea packet, for stronger tea. Adjust strength of tea to your personal taste.

The tea has a distinct woodsy taste that can be enjoyed alone, used as a flavor additive or sweetened depending on your preference. To sweeten use honey, sugar, vanilla or any other flavor additive you might enjoy. If you find a recipe that you enjoy, please share it with others on our customer comments page.

Notice: Using metal containers to steep, serve or store may reduce the medicinal effects. It is best to prepare directly in a ceramic teacup rather than in a metal teapot. Add tea and hot water in the teacup and let it steep for several minutes then stir, (preferably with a wooden or plastic utensil) its just that simple. It is now ready to be sweetened (if desired) and served.

Drink as much as desired. It is refreshing anytime of day -- morning or evening and with meals.
Our Products
We currently offer two Mulberry Yellow products: Mulberry Yellow Tea Packets as well as a proprietary loose tea blend of Mulberry Yellow and Reishi. Reishi is another medicinal mushroom that is consumed as a tea. It is widely available in gel-cap form as a dietary supplement. Reishi, like Mulberry Yellow, is traditionally consumed in tea form. Unlike Mulberry Yellow’s mild woodsy flavor, Reishi has a slight bitter taste; therefore, it has been produced as a loose tea so you can adjust the taste to your preference. This loose tea provides the additional benefits of Reishi in a form that can be prepared in the traditional hot water extraction method.
How Much is a One-Month supply?
Our loose tea is a one-month supply. This equates to approximately 45 tablespoons of tea mix, which can be prepared to make 45 - 90 cups of tea dependant on the strength desired. Our Tea Packets come in boxes containing 24 packets.
