A second ferry for Knotts Island looks more promising this week even while funding remains uncertain.
Currituck County officials received a copy Tuesday of the state's permit application that would allow modification of the ferry dock to berth a second vessel.
The document raises hopes that the state can come up with funding to operate a second ferry between Knotts Island and the mainland, said county manager Dan Scanlon.
"I'll keep my fingers crossed and continue to be optimistic," Scanlon said.
